Executive Director Job Summary
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management and daily operation of the HOC, ensuring that our mission is reflected in all activities. This role involves managing all aspects of operations, supervising staff and volunteers, managing the budget, and collaborating with community agencies to enhance services. The Executive Director acts as the primary liaison for community outreach, program development, and service delivery. The position has a flexible schedule that may include the coverage of various shifts, including weekends and holidays. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities
A. Daily Operations Management
· Oversee all daily operations of the HOC, including the Supply Closet and Soup Kitchen.
· Set hours of operation and create policies for effective service delivery with Board approval.
· Manage purchases over $1,000 with Board approval, and budgeted purchases under $1,000 independently.
· The Director is authorized to maintain a petty cash fund not to exceed $200 with funds provided by the Treasurer. The Director may spend these funds in any way.
B. Staff and Volunteer Supervision
· Lead, mentor, and support all paid staff and volunteers.
· Ensure there is a monthly schedule and coverage of volunteers in all facets of operation.
· Coordinate volunteer schedules and ensure proper training and engagement.
C. Reporting and Communication
· Attend Committee and Board meetings on a monthly and as-needed basis.
· Provide a monthly Director’s report to the board that outlines operations, successes, services statistics, financial data, and potential challenges.
· Partner with the Board of Director’s Treasurer and hired accounting firm to coordinate data sharing and accurately and transparently report the HOC’s financial standing each month.
· Prepare and present an annual report of activities to the Board, including detailed services statistics and financials, in the January meeting.
· Contact the Board President or Vice President at any time with problems or questions.
D. Financial Oversight
· Collaborate with the Treasurer to develop and manage the annual budget.
· Partner with the Board of Director’s Treasurer and hired accounting firm to coordinate data sharing and accurately and transparently report the HOC’s financial standing each month.
· Identify and secure grant funding, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
E. Community Engagement
· Foster relationships with local agencies, churches, and civic organizations to enhance services and community support.
· Deliver presentations to promote awareness and solicit volunteers or funding.
F. Operational Excellence
· Ensure the HOC is properly insured against fire loss, liabilities, and other losses, and that all property is maintained.
· Manage the office environment including the care and maintenance of the equipment and all other HOC property.
· Monitor supply levels and order necessary items while adhering to budgetary constraints.
· Ensure there is no duplication of services with other agencies.
Qualifications and Experience
· Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field preferred.
· Minimum of five years in human services, particularly with underserved populations.
· Proven experience in grant writing, fundraising, and securing donations.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills; bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
· Proficiency in relevant software applications.

· You are experienced in fundraising and grant writing, with a proven ability to secure resources for impactful programs.
· You are a great communicator, able to convey ideas clearly and engage effectively with a diverse audience.
Essential Functions:
· Ability to navigate stairs leading up to the HOC building and the shelter.
· Occasional lifting, up to 30 pounds independently.
Terms of Employment
This position is at-will, allowing both the Executive Director and the House of Compassion to terminate employment at any time, with or without cause or notice.
